Estimate the population of Romania by legal residence by territorial unit
Activity type: Special proccessings of statistical data from various surveys
Statistical population / phenomena:
All persons of Romanian nationality who have their legal residence in Romania. 
The population of Romania by legal residence includes romanian citizenship owners having their legal residence in Romania, as it is printed on Romanian Identification Document. In determining the value of this indicator it does not take account of usual residence, period and/or reason of absence from legal residence. The population of Romania by legal residence consists of:
 - the persons who leave their legal residence for working reason (to other place in Romania or abroad); 
 - the persons who leave their legal residence for studies (to other place in Romania or abroad);                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             -  the persons who leave their legal residence for medical treatment (to other place in Romania or abroad); 
 - the military of romanian citizenship working with the international organizations located in the geographical territory of other country;
- the members of national armed forces deployed in the rest of the world;
- the national staff of national scientific bases outside the geographical territory of the country;
- the national diplomatic personnel posted abroad;
- the persons of Romanian citizenship which are crews members of the fishing vessels, other vessels, aircraft and floating platforms operating partly or entirely outside the economic territory.

Short history of activity:
It was calculated to meet the demands of population data at territorial unit level made by different categories of users.
Observations:
For the demographic events, the statistical survey is exhaustive, the data collection being done with the information support outlined by the NIS ( for vital statistics) and by the MIA ( for the population migration). The experts of the NIS draw up the birth and death demographic statistical bulletins approved by the MIA (in accordance with the Law of the civil status documents, Art. 70-2). The data are collected as follows: monthly for the demographic events and biannually for internal and international migration.
