The statistical survey on existing pigs on May 1 was elaborated by the National Institute of Statistics in order to get statistical data on pigs, by weight categories and economic destination, (namely, breeding and fattening), based on the Regulation (EC) No 1165/2008 of the European Parliament of the Concil from November 19, 2008 concerning livestock and meat statistics and repealing Concil Directives 93/23/EEC, 93/24/EEC AND 93/25/EEC and on the Order of the President of the National Institute of Statistics no. 12/2009. In 2003, a pilot survey was performed within the Institutional Twinning Project.The statistical survey on pigs livestock on April 1 has been performed in Romania from 2004 to 2009. From 2005 to 2009 the statistical survey on pigs livestock was performed on August 1. From 2009 the statistical survey on pig livestock it is carrying out on May 1.
